Exit Up! aims to bridge the gap for Indigenous young adults aged 18-25 who have left care and are seeking a supportive environment to explore the many opportunities available to them
Exit Up! was launched in May, 2014, and is a multi-faceted program enabling Indigenous youth aging out of the care of Child and Family Services to live interdependently with success. This is done through:
Our youth progress through three phases of housing accommodations – congregate, semi-independent and independent – with each providing a different level of support. As the individual advances through each phase, the level of support will decrease. Phase 1 of the program begins at the Madison, Siloam Mission’s supportive housing development, providing a safe, comfortable and inclusive environment emphasizing each individual’s sense of value and purpose. As youth develop through the program, they build the necessary skills and confidence to enable more independence as they move into phases two and three of the program in community.
Education and training, life skills development, and mentorship.
Recovery from trauma, overcoming challenging barriers, and engaging in healthy coping strategies.

As many as 43% of those experiencing homelessness in Canada have been in the child welfare system at one point or another.
Approximately 500 youth leave the Child and Family Services system in Manitoba each year. Whether it’s because they have “aged out” (at 18, or older with an extension) or opted out at an earlier age, many of these young adults are left with few options once they leave care.
Being given the tools to learn how to live interdependently will significantly impact success in the areas of relationship, employment, education, housing and financial responsibility.
